Drombeg Stone Circle

Drombeg stone circle (an Drom beag) means the small ridge it is a perfect example of the Stone Circles to be found across Ireland.. The site dates back to the Bronze age (2000 - 500 B.C). The circle itself consists of 17 stones including the Portal stones which are the tallest and the Axial stone directly opposite. The Portal stones are visible in the picture they are to the left and the Axial stone is on the right it is a long stone and perfectly flat on top.

Like Newgrange and many other sites around the country this stone circle is aligned to the Sun. At the Winter solstice (21st December) every year the Sun sets at a point on the horizon aligned with the Axial stone and the two Portal stones.
