Queen Meave's Cairn

Knocknaree near Sligo town is the place where Queen Meave of Connaught is Buried. Her tomb is marked by a huge Cairn of stones on the summit of Knocknaree mountain and can be seen for miles in all directions. The Cairn is 10 meters high and about 60 meters in diameter and the views from the mountain top are spectacular. More of Queen Meave can be read in the pages containing the story of The Tain, the Cattle raid of Cooley where Meave tries to capture the Brown Bull from the men of Ulster and Cu Chulainn.
